Ashley Rubell is a writer and hair stylist in New York.
With two decades of experience ranging from behind the chair to commercial sets, press tours and fashion week, Ashley works with clients all over the world, bringing an editorial eye and an understated, modern approach to hair. She frequently travels internationally for destination weddings, creating timeless yet unfussy looks with a contemporary point of view.
Ashley has been a contributing writer for nearly a decade covering beauty trends, product reviews, author interviews, artist profiles and culture pieces. Her bylines have been featured in Byrdie, Write or Die, Tidal Magazine, Motherly and Narratively to name a few. She earned her MFA from the Bennington Writing Seminars, where she studied under the mentorship of Saeed Jones, Sabrina Orah Mark, Garrard Conley and Eula Biss. In 2024, she won the Creative Nonfiction × Narratively Art of Storytelling Prize for her interview with NYT podcast host Susan Burton. Her ongoing newsletter, Beauty of Books, explores what she's reading and noticing in her everyday life.
Ashley lives in the Catskills with her husband and two kids. She is currently at work on a book.
